This is a good book for an introduction to technical analysis. That said, it is a bit dry and does focus a lot on studies and indicators that may not be relevant to everybody. There are better books out there no doubt, but this a comprehensive intro book. It is structured very much like a text book and does talk about some academic nonsense at times, but still the information may be useful for a novice. It is not a fast read since it is so dry at times, but the book does span a lot of topics which are all important. Overall, I would recommend the text as a start in technical analysis, but there are much better books. Still, this is a solid book.

In my opinion, this should be the first book that a novice trader should read. Yes, it's long and reads like a text book, but trading is hard and takes time. It gives a nice and comprehensive overview over the whole field of technical analysis. Whenever possible, academic research is mentioned that gives you the confidence that what you are learning is not just tea leaf reading, but has real statistics behind it. After you are done with this book, you can buy books that discuss actual strategies and trading systems.

The second edition of Charles Kirkpatrick's (2011) Technical Analysis: The Complete Resource For Financial Market Technicians is as good as (or even better) than the Fidelity Technical Analyst stated. I went to another Fidelity training session and this book was presented as the best single technical analysis book currently available. The writing style was clear and was accessible to the "intelligent layman." If you happen to have a long-term background in trading as well as a strong fundamental understanding of statistics (especially regression analysis), you will appreciate the depth of coverage and the references to other sources. This is a fine text for a technical analysis course and is also an excellent source of information about many aspects of technical analysis. The text is 671 pages long. The index is 34 pages long. The reference section is 25 pages long. There is a section on basic statistics in an appendix as well as a glossary of technical terms. On a scale of ten I give this book a "ten" and I have never previously given a book such a high rating.

I couldn't find somewhere I could ask questions on this book so I would like to know if this book contains a study guide like the previous editions do?I could only find study guide for second edition.Edit: I contacted the author through email and he stated the study guide for 3rd edition wasn't released because there wasn't enough sales for it but he stated the study guide for second edition was a good substitute.

This book was for my technical analysis class, and I now wish I had purchased it as a hardcover. It was written in an easy-to-understand fun-to-read way. The difficult concepts were broken down and explained step-by-step to ensure complete understanding. There IS a lot of material that is covered; but it is a wonderful reference book for all tech analysis topics. If you're a student or undertaking investing on your own, this book is a must. I suggest reading Reminiscences of a Stock Operator hand-in-hand in order to see tech analysis in practice.

Well written and in-depth, highly recommend as covers all tech analysis topics, charting patterns, history, creators of the patterns, how they're useful, etc. A number of colleagues involved in the education division of the NYC chapter of Market Technicians Association recommend this book as a person's 1st and best read on the subject.

This book was recommended to me by my broker. This is a very informative book if one is wanting to learn Technical Analysis. It is very easy to read and understand. Of course I have been investing in the stock market all my life and have read many of articles and books so maybe now it is starting to all sink in for me to understand investing.

I purchased this book based on the previous reviews, I am not disappointed. This is a very good book (4 Stars), however if you also purchase the Study guide then this is an Excellent book (5 Stars).Do not buythis electronically as you will find yourself writing tons of notes in the margins. The only reason this is not a 6 star is because the printing is on fairly thin paper.
